SHS COMMITTEE MEETING

23 Carters Close Sherington, 26th September 2005

Present: Norman, Pearl, Mark and Kay.

Chairman's Report:

Norman started by saying he didn’t have much to say. (nothing new there)

MK Heritage AGM: - Norman asked Mark if he was going to the MK Heritage AGM on 28th Sept. and to ask about the Heritage Museum. Also that our membership would be due.

Mynard: - Norman has spoken to Denis Mynard who lives in Norfolk about the book the society received from Caroline Ellis. “Through My Mothers Eyes”. Norman was looking to find some more information about Annie Elizabeth Mynard for Mrs Wheeler (see correspondence) who could be related to the Mynard/Meakins family by marriage.

Our Archive: - Norman discussed his concerns about cross referencing our archives and how best to continue keeping information on all the different subjects and formats

Chibnall: - The book that had been given to us in bad condition has gone to a book repairer for a partial repair.

Open Day 1st Oct 05 and displays etc: - Norman asked Mark if he could set up the two computers for viewing at the Open Day on the 1st Oct, One would show village scenes (as previously) and the other PC, photos taken at this years scarecrow competition and Fete. Set up in the hall from 10.30pm. Mark will put the finishing touches to the A3 sheets giving the information on all 15 farms. Norman and Kay to mount pictures/photos and other info ahead of time.

SCAN: - The article for November will be about the artist Paul Mann who lived in Sherington.

Secretary's Report:

Community car raffle: - A letter has arrived to say the tickets for the raffle are ready for collection the week beginning 3rd October from the Community Foundation in Acorn House 9.30am – 4.00pm. Kay to collect. (Done)

The Open University: - A letter has been received via Shelia. ‘OU INSPIRE PROJECT’ formerly ‘GO:infoMK ‘It has a questionnaire requiring information on the society. Mark to look at this more closely.

Treasurers Report

Pearl has had problems with the account at the Nationwide so she will now open a Giro account, which will require 3 signatures. But 2 signatures to draw a cheque.

Web Site - The web site still remains firmly in second place behind Cowper and Newton museum, Olney in the hits parade, but in front of Hanslope

E mails - There were 3 this month:
Kimberly Millar – requested the availability of the field off Perry Lane. E-mail referred to PC & answered.
Howard Dalton – Replied to Kay’s letter re Pretymam he said he would get in touch with the Pretymans in Tasmania.
St Laud’s - Mark said that there was an E-mail with reference to a St Laudus Church somewhere in Cornwall. Could be near Plymouth.

The Crawley’s: - The society has received a booklet produced by North Crawly Historical Society chairman Peter Jeffrey. It contains info about North and Little Crawley, snippets of info about family life and village events and field locations and names.

Norman has collated marriage dates in the form of a booklet 1698 –1812. Mark said he would try to get hold of up to date info on Marriages.

Contact for Printers: - Norman showed the Committee a small booklet that was well presented. ‘Parchment of Oxford ‘ possibilities for the reprint of ‘A Walk Around Sherington’.

Christmas Cards: - Norman is going to produce some samples for us to look at using Caroline Leslie’s Winter scene already produced as a notelet.

The meeting closed at 10.20pm . Norman and Mark were on time tonight as they weren’t in need of a pint at the local and Kay’s mum was back in Whitnash. Kay was thanked for her hospitality

Next Committee Meeting: - At Pearls 31st October 7.30pm

Next General Meeting: - Peter Gardener and Philip Smith to show a film ‘Bike Ride Sherington to Oxford’ 11th October 2005, 8pm. Norman to make posters.
